FAQ

Bichectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of Bichat’s balls, which are accumulations of encapsulated fat found in the cheeks, under the cheekbones. These bags do not have an essential function in adults.

Bichectomy is usually painless during the procedure because it is performed under local anesthesia with sedation by an anesthesiologist. After surgery, it is normal to experience some swelling, mild discomfort, or a feeling of pressure in the cheeks. Pain is usually minimal and can be managed with pain medication prescribed by the surgeon.

Although initial results can be noticed after a few weeks, the final results of Bichectomy are usually visible after 6 to 12 months, when the inflammation has completely resolved and the face has been reshaped.

It is advisable to avoid any strenuous physical activity for at least 2 to 3 weeks after surgery. This includes exercises that may increase blood pressure or cause excessive sweating, such as running or weight lifting. Rest is important to avoid complications such as excessive swelling.

Not everyone is a good candidate for Bichectomy. Surgery is generally recommended for people who:

  • They have excess fat in their cheeks that gives them a rounded or voluminous appearance.
  • They have a healthy face without conditions that make surgery difficult.
  • They are not smokers or are willing to quit smoking temporarily.

Have realistic expectations about the results of the surgery. If you have any doubts about whether Bichectomy is right for you, it is best to consult with a specialized surgeon who can evaluate your case individually.
